China Denies Role In India-Pak Conflict (ANI )

China dissociated itself from the existing military confrontation between India and Pakistan on Thursday, May 8, dismissing any involvement of its fighter jets in Pakistan's retaliatory attacks. The statement came amid speculations regarding the use of China-Pakistan co-developed JF-17 fighter aircraft in Islamabad's retaliatory attacks.

China's Response to the Claims

Referring at a regular media conference in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the government "was not familiar with the matter" when asked about the role of Chinese-origin fighter jets. This was relayed by Reuters, following Indian missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.

Reports of JF-17 Deployment

There were reports that Pakistan had used JF-17 Thunders to retaliate against India's precision strikes, but Beijing neither confirmed nor denied the report. The JF-17 warplane has been an icon of military cooperation between the two nations for a considerable duration.

China's Call for Restraint

China continued its stand of neutrality, urging India and Pakistan to observe "maximum restraint." "We urge both parties to act in the larger interest of peace and stability… and refrain from taking actions that may further complicate the situation," Lin Jian went on to state.

India Scolds Chinese Media for 'Disinformation'

Hostilities were further aggravated after the Chinese state-owned news organization Global Times quoted unconfirmed reports of three Indian fighter planes destroyed in the operation. India rejected the report vehemently as "baseless" and condemned the newspaper for irresponsible journalism.

India's Response to Operation Sindoor

India's Beijing Embassy responded with a blistering retort on X (formerly Twitter), tweeting, "Dear @globaltimesnews, we would recommend you to verify the facts… When news media share such reports without fact-checking sources, it is a serious breakdown of responsibility and journalistic morality." India has kept repeating that Operation Sindoor was a precision and successful operation against terror infrastructure, losing no Indian planes in the venture.

Operation Sindoor Background

The operation, which was started at the break of dawn on May 7, was retaliatory to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist strike in which 26 civilians were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir.
